About the LMC
Although Solihull LMC formally became
an entity in its own right in 1974 after the
change in the county boundaries, it had been
part of Warwickshire before that. At the
outset, Solihull LMC used to meet in a
private room above the Red Lion public house
in Knowle for many years. Past LMC committee
members included Dr Mike Matthews, Dr Ben
Hill, Dr Stan Darling, Dr Stu Upton, Dr Bill
Phillips to name but a few.
The venue then changed to be rooms hired
out at Aylesbury Hotel in Hockley Heath
until in approx 2003 when it changed to the
surgery of the LMC Secretary (then Dr Stu
Upton) in Dorridge. After a brief spell at
Arden Medical Centre, it now is held at the
surgery of the current LMC Secretary, Dr
Mark Sterry in Grove Surgery, Solihull.
The Solihull LMC meet on the first Monday
night of each month (unless it is a bank
holiday) to discuss local issues pertinent
to Solihull GPs. The committee also meets
with Solihull Care Trust on the first
Tuesday of each month (or the following day
after the LMC meeting in the case of bank
holidays).
The Local
Medical Committee is an elected body set up
by statute and represents the interests of
local NHS GPs.
